I will present the construction of the BCOV invariant of Calabi-Yau varieties, inspired by the physicists Bershadsky, Cecotti, Ooguri and Vafa. I will show how this birational invariant of the complex structure enriches, by a spectral data, the data of the variations of Hodge structure and plays, for the counting of genus 1 curves in Calabi-Yau varieties via mirror symmetry, the role of the Yukawa potential for the counting of rational curves. This is a joint work with Dennis Eriksson and Gerard Freixas i Montplet.
